A collective cry of dismay reverberated on Twitter this week, as news broke that TweetChat   a tool to help manage hashtags and regular Twitter chats “will most likely be unable to continue to provide our service.”

People who actively participate in Twitter chats — communities that are organized around hashtags, and that meet on a regular basis to discuss specific topics — rely on TweetChat to help them manage those conversations. Right now, there are very few other options that allow you to easily participate in realtime conversations around a hashtag. RealTime Report, Is Twitter Killing Tweet Chat?

Internet Media Labs To The Rescue

So you can imagine our relief with the announcement yesterday that Internet Media Labs has entered the market with a new free Twitter chat platform – Qube SmartStream.

SmartStream will allow the tens of thousands of weekly Twitter chat participants to engage in their favorite Twitter chats with ease. In addition to sharing similar functionality with the Twitter chat platform of choice – TweetChat – oneQube SmartStream will offer chatters some new features we think will enhance their Twitter chat experience.

I am excited to try out new features like being able to see who is tweeting the most in the chat, what other hashtags are trending and what links are being shared – and all without ever leaving the stream. And.. even better – it promises to provide a chat transcript on demand.

With just one click, you will be able to save a full transcript of the chat you just participated in, which will be permanently archived in your transcripts for future reference.

This evening we will be hosting our fornightly #BlogChatIE tweet chat (details here) and I am all set to integrate SmartStream’s functionality into today’s chat.

As a chat host for #KaizenBiz, I’ve become a big fan of Tweetchat due to how easy it is to use and the lack of clutter. There is so much multitasking when hosting a chat so easy-to-use tools are a must.

I’m looking forward to hearing how SmartStream works out.

    Thanks for finding this tool

I have been looking for a replacement to Tweetchat.. and hopefully this is it. We would love to work closely with an amazing twitter chat tool that we could then help promote. We currently tweet over 300+ twitter chats out via our twitter acc: @TheChatDiary and people are loving it. We help people discover new chats, and remind them of chats so that they can decide to join in..

All people need to do is follow @theChatDiary and they will get the twitter chat alerts.. simple as that..
