One of the best ways for getting excellent (and free) publicity for your business is do apply for and reach the short list, runner-up or first place in any awards. Some months ago, I posted an article on the publicity I received from reaching finalist status in a County Enterprise board award but there are so many awards to choose from, it could become a full time job in itself! Here’s suggestions for 3 national awards that are perfect for SMEs.
The Enterpreneurial Business Awards have just announced their short-list and each business reaching this stage is listed on their website, to be scanned and viewed by all the other businesses. The winner of each county category will receive significant press coverage with the overall winning a significant cash prize too.
Another new and national awards to enter is the Start Up Awards which is open at the moment for entries. The prize fund is worth €50,000 but the press publicity to be a colossal bonus. The closing date is 12th April, there is a fee to apply (but you can apply under as many categories as you like for the single fee) so why not check it out and see if you think you may do well.
The Social Media Awards are being held in May and the closing date is this Friday 30th March at 4:30. I was a finalist last year in the ‘Best Blog of a Business’ section with my Garrendenny Lane blog and I was delighted. I generated some local PR by sending a press release to the local newspaper and I was interviewed on local radio. They are offering some guidance by providing a whitepaper on last year’s winner and there is email support too if you have any questions.
I would suggest entering in at least one of the categories, enter in the category for the social media tool that is the strongest for your business. You don’t have to win or even reach the finalist stage to get noticed and after all, we are all using social media to raise our business profiles and spread brand awareness. If you do reach the finals, particularly if you are a small one-man/woman business, it really is a wonderful achievement and you need to give yourself a huge clap on the back and go along for a good night, not forgetting to alert the local media to your success.
Awards give you recognitition for your hard work, they raise your business profile and they provide your mood with lots of positivity. So, go on, enter the Social Media awards and we’ll see you at the Mansion House in May.
