Even though there are many free themes to choose from when it comes to setting up a WordPress blog, it’s hard not to notice that some themes remain more popular than others. You can see them repeating again and again in the blogosphere until it becomes a little like wearing an outfit to a wedding and finding other guests dressed in the same way. So how you stand out from the crowd and avoid looking like a clone of so many blogs?
Add A Custom Header Image To Your Blog.
Many of the themes on WordPress.com feature an option which allows users to upload their own unique custom image header to obtain a much more personalized look and feel. In today’s Blog Tip Tuesday post, I want to show you how to add a custom header image to your blog to make it stand out from the crowd.
Step One
Make sure your chosen theme supports a custom header image option. You can easily find which themes offer this option by logging into your Dashboard – Appearance – Themes. Click the Feature Filter of the Search Installed Themes box.
Clicking this box brings up many different layout options to help you customize your blog – you can change colours, layouts and your header image. Click on your chosen options and hit Apply Filters.
Step Two
Upload your chosen image to your computer. Only .jpeg, .gif, and .png files can be used. Each WordPress theme has its own specifications for image size. Using an image of exactly the right size will produce the best results, so resize your pictures according to your chosen theme’s specification.
Step Three
Go to Appearance -> Header in your blog’s dashboard.
Upload your chosen image from your computer.
You may need to crop your picture if its dimensions do not match. Just select the portion of the image that you’d like to use for the header, then click Crop and Publish.
Your custom header image should now be installed.
